Modern-day Celtic legend James Forrest will receive the recognition he deserves on August 1st when Athletic Club come to Parkhead for his testimonial.

The friendly match will celebrate the winger’s career and a proportion of the funds raised will go to two charities – Kilbryde Hospice and Celtic FC Foundation.

This decision to donate the money was made by Forrest himself, which is a tremendous gesture.

And upon the announcement of the testimonial, Forrest was heavily praised by his manager, Ange Postecoglou. The Australian said (Celtic FC):

“James has been a hugely important figure to Celtic across so many years, contributing massively to such a sustained period of success for the club and he is really deserving of this great honour.

“Although he has achieved so much he is someone who remains so humble and unassuming, continuing to quietly get on with his job and striving every day to do all he can to bring more and more success to our supporters.”

The way Forrest acts in the public eye and on the pitch makes these comments about his character from Postecoglou unsurprising.

Moreover, the Celtic manager said the match itself will provide a good pre-season test for him and his men:

“We look forward to welcoming Athletic Club to Glasgow and we are sure they will provide a great test for us, but above all we look forward to a special night, honouring someone who has given us all so much.”

The game will be Celtic’s first of the 2023/24 season at home, making it all the more special.

Fans will assuredly be there in their thousands with tickets due to go on sale to season ticket holders this Friday at 2 pm.
