HYEONGYU OH has come to the defence of Scottish football after criticism from Japan‘s national team coach, Hajime Moriyasu.

Moriyasu had stated that the level of the league was a factor in the decision to exclude Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate from the Kirin Cup squad, though Daizen Maeda was called up but returned to Lennoxtown early due to injury he was carrying.

Speaking while on international duty with South Korea, Oh strongly refuted criticism of the league, stating that each team makes him feel like he is playing against a strong side, claiming teams up their game when the Champions are in front of them.

The 21yearold added that he has progressed since moving to Celtic Park from the Suwon Bluewings in January. He said: [Daily Record]

Scottish Premiership defenders have excellent physique and strength. I am getting stronger while competing with such players.”

When asked if it was easy to play for a team that dominates as much as Celtic.

“It is the opposite.

“All teams except for Celtic go into games with the intention of catching Celtic once. They come out with 120 per cent power when playing us rather than when playing with other teams.

“To defeat such teams, we also prepare more and try to overcome them. In the process, I am also growing.”

Oh scored a great goal for his country while away on international duty, but sadly it was disallowed for offside. He’s shown some great glimpses of what he can contribute to Celtic, and fans are eager to see him excel in the green and white hoops.
