Lee O’Connor is still on international duty with the Ireland under 21s.

We told you how the new Celtic defender earned rave reviews playing against Italy over the weekend and he is set to to play for his country again against Iceland before heading back to the Hoops.

O’Connor was highly rated at Manchester United and surprised many when he decided to join Celtic on deadline day in Scotland.

Since coming to the club the player has played a few developmental games as he tries to push for a first team place. The versatile defender is doing his chances no harm by displaying what he can do playing for his country.

Neil Lennon will certainly be aware of the player’s exploits this international break. If Lee can follow up his Italian job with another good performance against Iceland then who knows what could happen.

Speaking while away on international duty – Lee told the Irish Times he always had it in his mind he wanted to play for Celtic

“I always wanted to play for Celtic,” O’Connor said “From speaking to the manager, he told me how much of a family club it is and that was confirmed by the other Irish lads I know there.”

Jeremie Frimpong got a chance in the first team this season already after coming in at the same time as Lee – that will give the Irishman hope he can get the same opportunity.
