On Tuesday afternoon, Ange Postecoglou and his Celtic side picked up their first three points of the Europa League group stage with a comfortable 2-0 win over Ferencvaros.
Many Hoops fans came away from the game delighted with the end result but also happy to see the side put in a good all-round performance, in a game which could be decisive in helping secure European football after Christmas.
It was also a bit of revenge for the club, putting the Hungarians to the sword after last seasons Champions League elimination, which kick-started a whole load of problems.
The two sides face off once again in a few weeks, with Celtic travelling over to Hungary hoping that we can secure a European knockout place.
However, former Ferencvaros defender Andras Telek believes his ex side will secure all three points in the reverse fixture as he claimed that the Hoops didn’t offer too much of a threat.
“I don’t think Celtic offered too much, but unfortunately, that little bit was enough to leave the field with our heads down,” Telek said as quoted by the Daily Record.
“The first half might have been acceptable; we could have even figured it out. Admittedly, the Scots now seem like a better team. They’re faster and braver. And, they can also score a goal, which cannot be said of us.“It is always the coach who decides what his team should play. However, I don’t really understand why I didn’t even see our players donate their blood for success.
“The guys should have been fired up during the break, not content with 0-0.
“I have to say; we are simply weak. We can only play better on November 4th. I am convinced that we will defeat the Scots, and maybe then we can still pinch third place in the group.”
There is no doubt that Celtic’s trip to face the Hungarian Champions will be a tough test on November 4th as each of the games are in this competition.
The main thing for Ange Postecoglou will be to keep our focus on one game at a time.
If we can do that, coming through some tricky fixtures against the likes of Hibs at Easter Road, we will have built up some good momentum ahead of our second face-off, and fingers crossed, we can make sure Telek’s words don’t come to fruition.
