BRENDAN RODGERS shrugged off the Christmas day suggestions Celtic had spoke to any club let alone agreed on a deal for the transfer of Moussa Dembele.

Sky Sports misguided reporting of Celtic agreeing a fee with Brighton for the Frenchman services proved to be a massive Christmas blunder.

Hardly a day goes by without the Celtic striker being subject to a rumour or two these days.

While the Celtic manager can confirm there have been no bids, no negotiations and no informal chats about his striker, the Irishman stopped short of saying Moussa will definitely be at Celtic Park come February 1st.

“I am not sure where it’s come from. Moussa’s been linked with so many clubs since I’ve been here,” he said.

“There’s been no contact between the clubs and Moussa is very much still a Celtic player. There is no fee, no bid, there have been no talks.”

When asked if Moussa would be at Celtic until at least the summer, Brendan replied:

“I can’t say that.”

“I live in the real world of football and you can say things that make you look silly.

“Someone might come in with a bid that is an astronomical amount of money for the club and the player and, if the player wants to go, that’s modern football.”

The Celtic manager is correct not to commit to an outcome. He knows himself that Moussa will move on in the near future and should a top bid come in there’s very little he can do.
