JOHN HARTSON went on a bit of a rant in the BBC studio after the game on Thursday night. Celtic ran out 4-2 winners in the end but the former Celt was horrified by Celtic’s defending and had a go at new signing Carl Starfelt.

The Hoops went 2-0 up and looked like they were up for grabbing a big lead but they were pegged back soon after the second goal with a ball over the top. So simple and easy to break down the patched up defence.

Celtic then went 3-1 up and looked comfortable before we got caught too high up the field and defender’s committed before they should have.

The game was sitting at 3-2 before Ryan Christie nodded home a late fourth to make it more comfortable for Celtic on the night.

John is usually one of the pundits who least criticises Celtic while on pundit duty, something he acknowledges but he seemed to lose the rag with the Celtic defence and made it clear Celtic will win nothing unless they sort their defence out.

Speaking to BBC Scotland Live straight after the full time whistle John didn’t hold back: “It’s a good away win, but they could have been out of sight

“Up to now every game Ange Postecoglou has been in charge of, there’s been huge pressure

“Celtic had the opportunity to go win 4 or 5 nil. All they had to do is defend properly.

“It’s Sunday league stuff, the goals that they’re giving away.

Celtic won’t win anything defending like that. Now I know it’ll get better and I know Jullien might come back in.

Starfelt for the second goal, i know he’s early at the club but I have to call it as I see it. You can’t just dive in last minute and let Mirinski cut back inside like that and just get done

“Normally as a pundit I’m not overly critical, but I can’t sit here and accept that type of defending. It’s going to cost Celtic”

Celtic fans will be able to pack out Celtic Park for the first time in over 18 months with the stadium shutters being pulled up in time for the second leg.

Hopefully we see more goals and perhaps a better defensive performance from the Hoops.

  1. BBJ called it correctly. Four goals from a possible eight, triple substitution made, one goal scored. Two goals conceded from schoolboy errors, that any other half decent team, would exploit five times that amount. He also pointed out that ‘Players still have to come back from injury, get up to speed, be purchased.’
A call, as much as plea from the Big Chap. Most supporters have been harping on about for four or five years. So put up or shut up Suits.
