As random and obscure Celtic links come this next one has to be up there with Isaac Brizuela claiming the Scottish Champions were interested in him back in 2015.

In an interview from Mediotiempo, the winger made the admission that maybe, possibly, probably Celtic made contact with his former club before he made a £5m move to Chivas.

Celtic have been linked with so many people over the years it’s hard to keep track but the player seemed to believe there was contact at the time.

“I heard the rumours but I didn’t want to think about them too much and distract myself.

“In the end, I don’t know if they (Celtic) spoke to (Toluca) director, but when I was in Toluca they approached me but the club didn’t let me go because Celtic didn’t want to pay Toluca’s asking price.

On the chance of getting a move out of Mexico now, the player hasn’t ruled it out but at the age of 29, it doesn’t look likely.

“Being here in Chivas I don’t know if anyone has come over but I won’t give up hope.

“I know that I have a certain age, but I won’t give up hope that such a moment will come.”

Ronny Deila was the manager at the club then and it was before James Forrest really got going in a Celtic jersey.

Celtic are blessed with some fantastic wingers and men in wide areas. There’s so much competition for places Scott Sinclair can’t even get in the matchday squad.

The international break throws up funny stories like this when there’s not much else to talk about. The Mexican capped star would have been a big signing at the time for the club considering the price tag he went for in the same season.
