LEIGH GRIFFITHS has been very honest and up front with the Celtic support after firing home a later winner against St Johnstone at the weekend.

Celtic looked destined to drop points on Sunday up in Perth, but with the clock ticking down, Leigh Griffiths was brought on as a late sub to make his first appearance of the season.

The Scottish striker was a live wire up front and ran his socks off for the time he had on the field. When the Celtic support thought the game was dead, a cross from Elhamed found Leigh in acres of space and his pinpoint header nestled into the bottom right hand corner of the goal.

Leigh hasn’t had game time until now because he returned to Lennoxtown after lockdown nowhere near fit enough — being left out of the pre season tour of France with the manager calling him out publicly.

Proving his fitness and commitment to the club all over again hasn’t been easy but the front man has put in the hours and got his reward.

Speaking to SunSport after the game, Leigh was very honest.

“I let myself down, my club down. I let everybody down.

“Did I think my time was up at Celtic? No.

“I spoke to the gaffer at length many times and he always said that as long as he is here I will be here.

“I need to keep working on my fitness and make sure that when I am called upon I make an impact.”

Hopefully, there’s more to come from Leigh in the coming weeks and months.

  1. When Griff is good he is good, but his head seems to be up his Arse at times. Hope he has sorted himself out now as he could be crucial this season. Hail Hail
