Scottish Football pundits and pertinent figures, Simon Ferry and Barry Ferguson have spoken about the joys of working with Celtic legend Tommy Burns.

Speaking on Go Radio, both Ferry and Ferguson spoke about how much of a pleasure it was to work with Burns, telling stories of how much of an impact he had on training, whilst both were away on international duty with Scotland and even kept things like with ex-Rangers player Barry Ferguson around the rivalry between both clubs.

Ferguson said:

“I would only get to work with him for that 10 days, four times a year. I loved him, I loved working under him.

“He had good craic with the Rangers and Celtic thing. Every Sunday, we would be having breakfast and he’d always make it clear to me, ‘right I’m away to chapel Barry’. I just loved things like that. Great coach, a great guy as well.”

Ferry had similar humorous comments to make and spoke about his passion for the game that he just loved to play.

“We used to train and Jim McInally would be taking us for coaching and if Tommy had a meeting he would come down in his suit with Rockport boots on. He just couldn’t help himself. 20 minutes into training, he’s got the jacket off and he is running about with his suit and Rockport on joining in training.

“That was the guy that was taking it, It was a joy to be around him every day.”

He even went as far as to say he learned ‘Everything’ when asked how much did you learn from Burns.

It really does say a lot about Tommy Burns as a person with the number of stories like this you hear from everyone across Scottish Football.

He was a legend in everyone’s eyes no matter what club you were at because of his infectious personality and great humour.

To this day, he is a great loss and is sadly missed. I am sure people who are around my age will be wishing they could have seen him as a player in his day, as he really did represent the Celtic support on and off the pitch.
