Celtic striker Adam Idah is unhappy with how he’s started the season in a brutal self-reflection.

Despite averaging a goal every 79 minutes in green and white this campaign, the Irishman isn’t satisfied with his performances since joining the Hoops permanently from Norwich City.

Idah enjoyed great success on loan at Parkhead last season, netting several crucial goals as Celtic went on to do the domestic double.

It took a while for his almost inevitable permanent move to Glasgow’s east end to transpire in the summer, so he started the season slowly.

Reflecting back, Idah admitted that he perhaps got too carried away with himself last year, which carried into 2024/25: “I wasn’t too happy with how I started the season,” he said (Celtic FC on YouTube).

“I’m very honest with myself. Goals are great, but in terms of how I’ve actually performed, it’s probably not been the best. I wouldn’t say that’s being too harsh on myself. It’s just being honest.

“I don’t know the exact reason. I might have got a bit too carried away with myself from last season.

“The high I finished on last season, I might have thought I could come back and it would be the exact same. But as we know, football doesn’t work like that.

“It’s just about reflecting back and coming back to being myself.”

It took Norwich and Celtic what felt like an age to shell out a deal for Idah during the summer transfer window; the striker didn’t join the Hoops permanently until the middle of August.

He missed pre-season with the Scottish Premiership champions and had to get up to speed promptly.

That perhaps contributed to his slow start, although his goal record this campaign cannot be refuted. Indeed, Idah recognises this despite being unsatisfied with his overall performances: “I know what I’m capable of, and it’s just about getting back on track and doing the things I know I can do,” he said.

“It was only in the last couple of days that I’ve looked back and seen I’ve had a goal every 75 minutes I’ve played.

“That made me realise it’s not actually been as bad as I thought.

“For any striker if you’ve got a stat like that you’d be pretty proud of yourself.”

With Rodgers expected to make some changes this afternoon amid his side’s hectic fixture schedule, Idah could return to the starting lineup when Celtic face Ross County at 3pm.
