CHARLIE NICHOLAS has come out and slated Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths for his goal celebration at Firhill just months after he had a go at Leigh’s fellow Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard for the same thing.
The Sky Sports pundit who is so far removed from his Celtic days continues to be a pest when it comes to talking about our club and its players.
Nicholas puts it to Leigh that he shouldn’t be celebrating by putting his fingers in his ears and creating a war between himself and his critics. The player should be getting among the goals and celebrating with his teammates and forgetting the outside noise altogether.
The pundit wants to see Leigh drop the angry act and get back to scoring goals on a regular basis. Charlie did say he’d love to see Leigh backfiring but questions his attitude about doing so if he continues to fight the world.
“I might annoy a lot of people with these comments, but I really don’t care.” told the Daily Express as cited by RecordSport.
“The celebration was wrong. It shouldn’t be about Griffiths – it should be about scoring a goal for Celtic.
“Mind you, I also got it wrong once. I did it, ironically, when I scored a goal against Partick Thistle, second time around.
“I kicked the boards because I was angry and I knew our club was in a mess.
“I got it wrong and Leigh also got it wrong in the same way on Saturday night.
“Don’t fight the world. He has to understand where he is, what his position is and who he plays for.
“Criticism or opinions from different people – and I am not talking about myself personally – doesn’t really matter.
“I am very supportive of Griffiths in terms of his ability and his appetite.
“I would love to see him back in the Scotland squad because we don’t have a genuine No 9 or a natural finisher.”
‘When I saw his celebration at Firhill, it left me doubting if Leigh can be that man.
“Why did he put his fingers in his ears? It is not about a war or creating a so-called agenda. It is about getting himself right as a person – and if he does that, he can become the player he once was.
“His celebration really worried me and saddened me.
“I just think he should sort himself out and enjoy his goal.
“You are trying to pick fights with people who don’t matter.
“The only thing that matters is you, your team-mates, manager and the fans.
“If he continues to be sidetracked by everything else then I fear he won’t fully recover.”
Leigh scored his first goal since August at Firhill and there’s been a lot of frustration for the player nursing injuries and trying to stay fit and get among the goals. I see no harm in what Leigh did on Saturday evening.
