Dylan Reid was heavily linked with a move to Celtic back in the summer window. The 17-year-old was chased by a whole host of clubs, one of them was most certainly the Scottish Champions.

Reid made the move from St Mirren to Crystal Palace last week to continue his career down south, hoping to one day be another Scot who makes the breakthrough into the EPL.

Talking about the Celtic interest, the player revealed the move went as far as talking to Ange Postecoglou.

Reid was being earmarked to go straight into the B team to play in the Scottish Lowland League. While the move to Celtic held great appeal for Dylan, he was very uncertain if playing so far down the Scottish system would have been the best thing for his career and development at this stage.

“I spoke to Ange Postecoglou,” the kid told the Sun.

“We had a good chat and he explained what it would be like if I went to Celtic. He said it wouldn’t be easy and I would need to work hard. I knew that would be the case so that didn’t worry me. That’s what I want, to work hard and progress.

“At Celtic I’d have been in their B-team, playing in the Lowland League and I didn’t feel that would suit me. Working with someone like Ange was definitely a big pull. It seems every player he’s worked with is on the rise. I’ve also heard great things about how good a coach he is.

“I’m sure had I gone to Celtic I’d have taken my game to another level. I didn’t think playing in the Lowland League was the best thing for me now.”

Usually when someone decides not to join Celtic you’ll see a backlash online of fans claiming the player has made a huge mistake. Dylan looks to have turned down the move for legitimate reasons. The Hoops don’t have a great track record of producing players ready for the first team as of late. You can quickly become just another number playing in the lowland league with the club.

The only way the bhoys can change that perception is if the likes of Rocco Vata and Bosun Lawal etc start moving up the food chain at Celtic. If young players can see others benefitting from B team football in the Lowland league, then young talented players are more likely to make the leap and come to Celtic.
