Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has opened up on the job interview, which led to him becoming Hoops boss in the summer.

The 56-year old was very much an unknown candidate when his name was mentioned for the job back in May. But, A LOT has changed since then, with the Celtic support loving the job the ex Socceroos boss is currently doing at the club.

Speaking in an interview with Open Goal, Postecoglou revealed that towards the end of his time in Japan, he was already considering a move to Europe before becoming the new manager of Celtic and previously held interviews with other clubs.

In an hour-long zoom call with the club, he wasn’t sure what to expect. But, he came out of the call, knowing he had secured his position as the next permanent boss at Parkhead.

“I’d had four years in Japan; I thought that was probably going to be my last year in Japan.

“I’d spoken to clubs over this side of the world, and they always ended up they don’t know who the hell I am, and I could tell by the end of the phone call that this isn’t happening – it’s just a courtesy call to say they spoke to me.

“When I spoke with Celtic, I remember I said to my wife because we’ve got two young ones, I said get them out because I’m doing a Zoom call I don’t want them running around throwing things at me or me trying to Bart Simpson style strangle them.

“She took them out and came back an hour later and said ‘How’d it go?’ and I said to her, ‘I think I’ve got the job. – it’s bizarre, but if it went as well as I think it did and it kind of just rolled on from there.”

It has certainly been a rollercoaster journey since the day of that interview and when Ange was appointed, with a lot changing since then, including the Hoops league position at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

It is crazy to think how circumstances could have changed had certain things gone another way, which might not have led to Ange becoming manager at the club.

Thankfully, that isn’t something we need to worry about, and like plenty of other fans, I am delighted and proud to have Ange on board as manager of our football club.
