As a pundit and manager, we all know by now exactly the type of character Gordon Strachan is, as someone who will speak his mind and give his honest thoughts.

This afternoon on Premier Sports, he did exactly that giving a strong defence or certain Celtic players such as Scott Brown and Callum McGregor.

After such a poor season, which has seen the club go trophyless for the first time since the reign of Tony Mowbray, there have been many critics of several Hoops stars and their mentality.

Years and years of success has seen these same players be praised for that exactly but this season it just seems to have disappeared.

However, Strachan was quick to back them up and believes that other players in the squad should have done more to help these players out.

“You’ve got to look at it in a bigger picture.

“One of the things I get annoyed at, if I was a Celtic player, is all these people like McGregor, Brown, Christie who have been winning things and they’ve suddenly become ‘weak personalities’. I think that’s wrong.

To tar everybody with that brush. To get nine Championships or quadruple trebles. And to suddenly say, they are all rubbish and the other team are all great.”

It has been far from ideal this season with pretty much the whole squad not being good enough, especially in games such as these.

Strachan maybe makes some good points in what he has to say when looking at the bigger picture.

But at this stage, it feels like the end of a cycle for the majority of these players as we begin the enter a new era for the club with the up-and-coming rebuild that is set to take place.

You can watch more of Gordon Strachan’s views after the games, on this clip posted by Premier Sports.
