DORUS DE VRIES has spoken for the first time about the clubs summer activities and how he was looking to leave in search of first team football.

The goalkeeper, who is now getting his chance because of an injury to Craig Gordon said Brendan Rodgers blocked any move away from the club after interest in him this summer.

“I could have gone back to the Premier League, but, at that moment, I wasn’t allowed to go. Simple as.

“The manager said he didn’t want to lose me because of my experience and the type of guy I am in the dressing room.

The 37-year-old said he understood Rodgers decision and respected it, even though he would have liked to in search of first team football down south,

“It can be tricky and I understood how he felt. Sometimes because the window is so time-sensitive, you can’t let players go.

“You have to respect that decision. You can’t mope about it.

“You can’t go and sit the in corner and cry. That would be no use.”

Dorus now has the opportunity to cement his own spot for the time being and while he was very open to a move away he must be glad he stayed on now.
