MORTIZ JENZ has spoken about a move to Celtic breaking down not once, but twice. The big German defender finally signed on loan for the club this summer.
Moritz was earmarked for a move back when Ange first took over, and then the bhoys looked at him back in January, both times the stars didn’t align for the move to happen.
During that time, Jenz watched his former Fulham teammate Matt O’Riley join the Hoops, something that ‘annoyed’ him further after wanting the move so much.
Speaking to the Jenz told theCeltic View Podcast: “It was even the last transfer window I was supposed to come but things didn’t go that way. I was disappointed because I really wanted to come. Suddenly Matt came here as well and I was even more annoyed by it because he plays for this amazing club. I was jealous because Celtic you know big stadium, fantastic club.
“We kept speaking, Matt kept telling me how the club is, how the manager is and about his idea and philosophy. You get immediately like a really good feeling, this is a project I want to be in, this is a club I want to be in.
“They obviously got in touch again and I was very happy about it because this is good and I had a fantastic talk with the manager. You never know in football how things go with the decisions at clubs but there was always like communication between officials of the clubs and my agent.
“There was always a scenario that it could happen and luckily it happened. They were very patient and I was very patient as well and the timing was perfect.”
Moritz is currently here on loan. We understand the centre-back would love to make the deal permanent next summer.
The 23-year-old has made sixteen appearances for Celtic since joining from FC Lorient. More game time than he may have initially expected back in the summer, but due to Carl Starfelt’s injury problems, Moritz has beeb ever-present in the Celtic backline.
Jenz will be one of eleven players heading out into the heat of the Bernabeu on Wednesday night for Celtic’s final Champions League game. Ange and the bhoys have nothing competitive to play for, but all the guys heading out on the night will be determined to give it their all against some of the best players in the world.
