Former Celtic and West Ham player Frank McAvennie has tipped Celtic to bring in a Celtic minded coach to help out any new managerial regime in the coming weeks.

Speaking to Football Insider, Frank believes someone who knows the quality and the fabric of the club will be added to things as Celtic step up their rebuild:

“I wouldn’t be surprised if someone who knows the club comes back. Someone who knows Celtic inside out, a real Mr Celtic.

“Whoever comes in, I’m sure they will bring someone in who knows the quality and fabric of the club.

“Even if they bring their own team from elsewhere, there will be someone with that knowledge.

“The backroom staff will be cleared out but someone who knows the club needs to be there. I’m sure they will be.”

Celtic fans want a departure from any coach coming into the club that’s not been picked by the manager. If the new man wants a Celtic minded coach then so be it, but it shouldn’t be up to anyone else but the man in charge of the team.

John Kennedy is still technically at the club right now and could serve under another new regime. There are not many top-class coaches out there at the moment who are Celtic minded and would take a gig under a new manager.

We believe Eddie Howe is going to be the next Celtic manager and he’s got his own team he wants to bring into the football club. John Kennedy could be useful for a handover of power – but it’s time the coach spread his wings and became a manager in his own right elsewhere next season.

We don’t need Celtic minded folk in the dugout to succeed, we need a top manager and top coached – if they happen to be Celtic minded, that’s just a bonus.

  1. I think Frank is like many of us and feels Celtic are well capable of messing this up. I would not be at all surprised if Howe does not arrive. I hope he does, and I’m sure Frank does too.

  2. If Howe came in after Neil left, then Broonie may still be at Paradise. When it comes to being team minded, Broonie was the man who pushed players around for and against him. Celtic will know what they miss, now he is gone. Later when the sheep come a callin.
