CELTIC have been very quiet when it comes to the in-fighting between clubs and the SPFL since the shutdown.

The club’s last official correspondence through a statement was exactly a month ago when they let supporters know everyone at Celtic Park was taking a wage cut or having their wages deferred to help ease the financial pressure during the crisis.

Since then, we have had umpteen statements from a variety of clubs about the SPFL and its governance.

It should not be lost on Celtic fans that the people governing our game have been found wanting over the years.

However, the self-serving and hyperbolic nature way it has been pointed out has done the accusatory clubs no favours.

Davie Provan believes this isn’t about The Rangers trying to stop Celtic from winning the title this season. The Sky Sports pundit points to an unimpeachable claim from Celtic for this year’s title. Provan instead puts it down an Ibrox power move to get rid of executives who are close to Peter Lawwell.

Writing in his SunSport column, Provan says Peter Lawwell is the only man left with the moral high ground in all of this.

“If you ask me, this isn’t about Gers trying to prevent Celtic’s inevitable crowning as champs — it is more like an attempt to remove SPFL board members they fear may be close to Peter Lawwell.

“The Celtic powerbroker hasn’t said a word during this rammy. He hasn’t had to. Lawwell has the moral high ground to himself.

“By agreeing to finish the season if at all possible, he’s put himself beyond criticism. It’s now a matter of when, not if, Celtic get the title.

“Rangers’ league collapse leaves Celts with an unimpeachable claim on this season’s title.

“Lawwell says he’d have preferred to finish the games but he’ll take the Champions League place whatever way it comes.

“And once Rangers’ request for an independent enquiry is kicked into touch at Tuesday’s EGM, it’ll be business as usual.”

If you read Provan’s column on a regular basis, you will know he hasn’t got much love for Peter Lawwell. However, he’s spot on here.

  1. Peter lawell has been great for celtic for years, not everyone is going to agree with what he or anyone else would do thats just natural but would you rather have all the comedy acts that sevco have had since they were born in 2012. The old saying be careful what you wish for could come back to haunt us, at least we know he always has celtics best interest first.
