Ibrox manager has paid homage to 16 goal Celtic striker Robbie Keane as the Irishman retired from professional football on Wednesday.

Gerrard took to his Instagram to pay tribute to his former teammate at both Liverpool and LA Galaxy writing the following:

“Congratulations on a fantastic career.

“It was a pleasure to play with you, nightmare to play against you and a joy to watch all your goals and moments of magic over the years.

“Enjoy retirement mate and good luck in your new role.”

Gerrard is on a small list of Ibrox managers to pay tribute to a former Celtic striker while still in their Ibrox post. Some fans won’t be happy with him.

Keane was a great footballer and played for some top teams, his Celtic stint was short lived and it came at a time when the bhoys weren’t doing so well.

The Irishman played for some top sides in his career and at the age of 38 has done plenty in the game.

Nobody knows what’s next for the striker but we’re going to join Steven Gerrard in wishing him the best in retirement.

I’m sure Robbie will reciprocate when Brendan Rodgers retires Gerrard this season.
