The Sydney Super Cup will NOT have a Glasgow Derby after the Ibrox club sensationally pulled out of the agreement to play in the competition later this year.

The Ibrox club faced a barrage of abuse from their own fans after signing up to the competition that was being billed as a Celtic centric, Ange Postecoglou homecoming tour.

Celtic fans were not happy with the club cashing in on the rivalry with The Rangers and wanted the club to stay firm on their comments that they’re ‘not half of anything’.

The Sydney Super Cup organisers will be plotting their next move and from the comments coming out of Ibrox, it appears they’re going to try and claim the organisers were not fulfilling their commitments to the club.

Celtic’s global brand and Ange connection meant they were getting paid more than the Ibrox club for the tournament. However, at the time, the powers that be were quite happy with their pay day.

It was a colossal misfire from The Rangers who have a real issue playing second fiddle to Celtic. I’d have thought they’d be used to it by now.

Tickets have already been sold for the game and we have no idea what happens next. Will the tournament go ahead with a bigger and better club involved?

We’ve reached out to Celtic and the Super Cup organisers for comment.
