ALLY McCoist has provided a sobering wake up call for Gers fans after another weekend of dropped points in the Premiership.

Aberdeen held The Rangers to a 0-0 draw at Ibrox and less than 24 hours later, Celtic ground out a win against Hamilton to go seven points clear at the top.

McCoist who was on the BT panel for the Celtic game couldn’t help but notice the difference in both sides and how Celtic are better equipped to go on and win the league.

Speaking to BT Sport and cited by SunSport, the former Ibrox manager gave his own fans a dose of reality – something they’re not used to.

“They have been far from impressive in the games I have seen against Stranraer and St Mirren.

“They were very poor against Hearts and I watched them on Saturday against Aberdeen.

“In the first couple of games they missed Morelos and Tavernier . There is no doubt about that.

“I have said it for a while. Celtic have more potential match-winners in their team.

“Rangers are too reliant on Tavernier, Kent and Morelos.

“Celtic have more of a goal threat whether it is from Griffiths, Edouard or the boys round about them.

“I watched Rangers huff and puff against Aberdeen. I looked at Rangers bench and was asking if anyone could come on change the game? And the answer was I don’t really think so.”

Celtic had to endure over three weeks of nonsense over the winter break after their Glasgow Derby defeat on how they were no longer the favourites for the title. A month later, there’s only one side who has shown their real championship-winning credentials.

It’s easy to get yourself up for a derby game and play out your skin. We see smaller clubs and poorer teams raise their game against Celtic all the time. This seems to be what’s happening here – without the spark or the incentive of taking Celtic’s scalp in a one off game, they seem undermotivated and lack creativity.

Celtic are in relentless form and they’ll be hoping to continue that against Motherwell this week.
