BARRY FERGUSON has claimed that the Rangers defence wants to play against Giorgos Giakoumakis in the third derby of the season.

Giakoumakis has been on fire after the winter break. He’s even scored back-to-back league hat tricks. The Greek has netted the ball eight times in his last five games. Furthermore, all of the former Eredivisie’s top goal scorer’s goals have been one-touch finished. He’s lethal in the box.

Speaking on Go Radio, Ferguson made his strange claim;

“He’s a danger inside the box, but outside the box, he’s not the most pleasant on the eye.

“He’s not got the link-up. I think if you ask Goldson and Balogun who they want to come up against, it’d be Giakoumakis.

“You can’t argue with his goal-scoring record. He’s in the right area at the right time, he has a knack of scoring goals and you can’t take away his return.”

This isn’t the first comment that the Ibrox man has made this season that has been laughed off. There is no way he’s being serious here, Giakouamkis is currently one of the most in-form players in the league at the moment.

He gave them a hard time when the Greek lined up against the Rangers’ defence in February. Celtic won the game convincingly, with Balogun and Goldson unable to mark the player, creating space for others.

Giakoumakis will most likely start at Ibrox. Hopefully, he can net the ball a few times, and Barry can go live on Radio and admit he was wrong.
