This current season is in a new weird surreal phase in that there is no football. While that is not the biggest problem in the world right now some kind of sport would be the perfect antidote to being imprisoned with young kids.

While the SPFL is on lockdown it gives Celtic fans a chance to breathe and analyse just where their team were before the lockdown.

The truth of the matter is, the bhoys couldn’t have been in a better position at this point in any season, let alone this potential record-breaking year. They already won 1 of 3 domestic trophies on offer, had one hand on the league title and were two wins away from another Scottish Cup win.

With the remaining competitions being put on ice (at least for now), we can switch our attention onto player performances. First up, let’s credit Neil Lennon and his management team. Some people doubted the Irishman was the right choice to take Celtic onto nine-in-a-row, the truth is he has exceeded expectation.

His team recorded some memorable wins in Europe and topped a group few gave them a chance of getting out of. At times this season fans have witnessed some of the most attacking football since a certain Tommy Burns side, more importantly for Lenny, the results matched his attacking football. He has got his team playing as such a unit that it makes it hard to pick players out of the bunch, but that won’t stop us from trying.

Let’s just get down to it, we can’t see past Fraser Forster for our no.1 pick. There was a lot of grumbles last summer when Celtic kept getting linked to old Neil Lennon players. I was a big fan of Lennon as our permanent manager but when I heard we were getting linked with big Fraser on loan I thought it was for backup to Bain and didn’t really see the point.

The Wall got a start a few days after being signed in a 3–1 win over Hearts and he has been undroppable ever since. His performances in Europe had English pundits slapping a £20m price tag on the stopper. I really hope Fraser is our no.1 signing target this summer or whenever we have a transfer window again, he is the foundation of this team now.

So much is expected of Odsonne Edouard that every bit of magic he produces is classed as normal for the player. The truth is he is red hot property who has had all kinds of price tags stuck to his forehead after some of his performances this season. French Eddy shows up for the big games, he never looks under pressure and many have described him this season as the best striker at Celtic since Larsson. With 28 goals in 45 games that compliment is justified.

Ryan Christie sent Celtic fans wild this season with his goals and form, while all the media were banging on about a £7M intention signing across the city, Christie was the only show in town. An injury slowed the player’s surge in 2020 but he has to be one of the first names on the manager’s team sheet when fully fit. With 17 goals in 31 games, this season the attacking midfielders stats resemble that of an out and out striker.

It is probably unfair to finish off without mentioning the performances of Callum McGregor. He played a deeper role in 2019 that kept him out of the limelight but since Lennon switched to a more attacking 3-5-2 Cal Mac is in amongst the goals again, although his relentless work rate is probably taken for granted sometimes.

Leigh Griffiths deserves a special mention too. His career looked in the balance this time last year. What he has done in the past year cannot be measured or back up by statistics but it should be applauded from all corners, his form in 2020 is just the icing on the cake.

Jeremie Frimpong burnt a blinding light with his introduction in the Hoops and you can bet your bottom dollar the young Dutch international is just getting started. A change in formation and injuries have meant less game time for the wing-back in 2020 but fans know they have a real player on their hands here.

So, if you had to single out just one player now who would it be and why?
