Kelechi Iheanacho has spoken after making an immediate impact for Bursaspor following his Celtic exit this summer.
It was an ideal start for Iheanacho, who moved to Turkey after his time at Celtic came to an end.
Speaking to the Daily Record after the game, the striker admitted he was delighted with both the result and his own performance.
He said: “The first matches are usually difficult. But as a team, we overcame the difficulty and I’m happy that we won. I’m also very happy with my personal performance, as I scored a goal and provided an assist.
“Before coming to Bursa and Türkiye, I wasn’t expecting a place like this; Bursa and Türkiye are truly amazing.
“Bursaspor fans gave me a wonderful welcome from the very first day, and after the goal, I wanted to go to them and reciprocate that.
“I hope to be very successful here (at Bursaspor) and lift trophies.”
Iheanacho will be hoping his opening performance is the start of a productive spell in Turkey after leaving Glasgow.
His Celtic exit initially raised questions over the club’s attacking options, particularly given his experience and the need to strengthen the forward line during the summer window.
However, Celtic have since added Kasper Høgh and Camilo Duran to their attacking options.
Duran has also offered Celtic something different in attack and played his part in that victory, including setting up Høgh during an impressive attacking display.
On the early evidence, Celtic now look stronger in the forward areas than they did when Iheanacho departed.
Losing a player with his experience could have left a sizeable gap, but the arrivals of Høgh and Duran have given Celtic fresh options and greater competition at the top end of the pitch.
Iheanacho, meanwhile, could hardly have asked for a better start to his new chapter, with a goal and an assist on his Bursaspor debut.
