Former Celtic defender AND long term target Aaron Hickey has been nominated for the prestigious ‘golden boy’ award.

The former Hearts left-back who moved to Bologna last summer has been quietly going about his business.

Celtic were after him for two seasons while at Hearts but the stars never aligned fit the deal to happen.

Back in April, Hickey spoke about Celtic’s interest in him.

As quoted by RecordSport, Hickey confirmed he is a Celtic supporter but the timing has not been right for a first team move to Parkhead just yet.

“Celtic came in a lot and I was excited and happy about it.

“I don’t know if it was the right option for me, though, because of the deal or something.

“I’m a Celtic supporter and it was massive for me, but I just didn’t think it was the right time to go there.

“I wouldn’t ever rule it out down the line, who knows.”

Hickey joins some prestigious young talent on the list and proves the defender is on the right track. You can see the full list at TutttoSport.

Aaron did start his career off at Celtic but moved to Hearts to get game time, he briefly returned to the Hoops before heading back to Tynecastle and finally making the first team.

Had he not taken that chance, he could have been on the Celtic scrap heap by now. Sometimes you have to do what’s best for your career and ignore your allegiance.

It does feel like Aaron will be in a Celtic jersey somewhere down the line. Hopefully his hard work and dedication in Italy pays off.

Celtic have Greg Taylor and Boli Bolingoli at left-back right now.
