NORWICH chief Stuart Webber has lifted the lid on his talks with David Turnbull when the player headed down south to talk to the Canaries.

The player’s Celtic deal currently hangs in the balance due to an injury the medical picked up but before this had happened the player had a straight choice between Norwich and Celtic.

The transfer saga has lasted over two weeks with the deal being off and on so many times.

Webber confirms they did EVERYTHING to try and land the talented midfielder but even though there was more money on the table from the newly promoted side – Turnbull had his heart set on a move to Celtic.

Webber did have a dig at Celtic by suggesting if he was Turnbull he would not have made that decision – especially after the social media post Celtic sent out.

“Talks went well and we rolled out the red carpet and he chose Celtic, which was his choice.” he told SunSport.

“Good player, good lad, good representatives, he’s chosen a great club.

“I’m not sure I would have chosen them after the way they spoke about me in the media but that was his choice.

“He’s chosen a great club and I’m sure one day he’ll want to play in the Premier League because it’s the greatest league in the world, and hopefully he’ll get that opportunity.

“When you get turned down it’s never nice but at the same time, there’s always another player and we want players who genuinely want to be here.

“As I said to him when he was trying to decide: ‘Listen mate, have no regrets, you’ve got to go where you want to go and if your heart is set on Celtic, it’s set on Celtic – because you’ll be here and in a month thinking you’re going back up to Scotland’.”

We are still awaiting the outcome of more talks between Celtic and Motherwell which would see the transfer go through.

It has been a slow and painful process, much like a lot of Celtic’s transfer windows recently. The club needs to get a move on with the Champions League qualifiers starting in a little over two weeks.
