ANGE Postecoglou brought Yuki Kobayashi to Celtic in January, with big things expected from the young defender.

He was tipped to be a star of the national side in years to come, but he’s failed to live up to expectations so far in his Celtic career.

He had a few games in the January/February period, where he did look promising, but towards the end of the season, when he was given a better chance to showcase his talent, he failed to impress.

He looked to get a fresh start under Brendan Rodgers, but he picked up an injury in pre-season and hasn’t featured since.

CeltsAreHere asked the manager about Yuki, and about the situation the Japanese defender finds himself in.

Brendan Rodgers praised his attitude, but admitted there wasn’t space for him in the current squad.

“He’s certainly someone who is really professional.

“In fairness to Yuki, he would have gone out on loan and he just got injured just before he went out.

“He’s training really well, it’s not that he’s doing anything wrong. His attitude has been fantastic, working really hard.”

A loan would be highly beneficial for the player, who needs consistent minutes at this point in his career to improve.

At 23, there is still time for him to realise his potential, but it doesn’t look like Celtic is the place that he will, for the time being at least.
