Celtic had a memorable night in Hungry tonight which not a lot of Celtic teams can claim. The hoops travelled to Hungary for a major European encounter for only the fifth time, and for the first time since September 1988. That was a 1-0 defeat to Budapest Honvéd. They’ve won only one of their previous four trips beating Újpest 2-1 in March 1972 in the European Cup quarter-finals.

Ferencvaros knocked Celtic out of the Champions League qualifiers last season and gave a good account of themselves in the group stages so tonight’s result should not be underestimated against the Hungarian champions.

Kyogo Furahashi laid down an early marker with a goal inside the first three minutes. It only took the hosts a bit more than five minutes to equalise.

Then on twenty minutes, a move that started with Joe Hart ended up a Jota goal seconds later to put the Bhoys back into a 2-1 lead.

But the goal and move of the night came in the second half, this is what happened after David Turnbull lost possession:

This looks like a second-place battle now with Betis who lost 4-0 tonight to Leverkusen in Germany and also had Fekir red-carded at the end of the game. Celtic will be playing European football in 2022.
