Jozo Simunovic has given Celtic fans a timely reminder he’s on his way back and working hard every day in order to return to the first team.

The player went under the knife at the end of September for a niggling injury. Neil Lennon described the operation as a clean up rather than full on surgery.

It is a blow for us and the player,” Lennon told CelticTV back in September. “He felt it was a necessity and thankfully it is not a micro-fracture again which is a serious operation where you are out for six to eight months.

“He has had a clean-up and obviously we have to tread carefully on his rehab and the sooner we get him back the better.”

Jozo is now rehabbing and is not expected to be back before the new year. There’s a chance he’ll be ready to return shortly after Celtic’s Dubai training camp in January during the winter shutdown.

The Croatian became a favourite of Neil Lennon’s this year when the Irishman came into the club. Keeping his place throughout the end of the treble treble campaign and started brightly again this term before his injury.

The challenge for Jozo will be to get fit and try to challenge Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer for a first team place.
