Celtic defender, Nir Bitton has received a surprise call-up for the Israeli national team, despite being forced off with an injury on Thursday night.

The 28-year old was forced off the pitch after around five minutes, due to a nasty challenge which saw him twist his ankle and even be stretchered off, to the changing rooms.

As reported by Glasgow Live, despite those injury worries, Israel boss Willi Ruttensteiner has called Bitton up for the up and coming international qualifiers.

Israel will be facing off against Scotland once again at Hampden Park, in the Semi-Final play-off for the European Championships as well as facing Czech Republic and Slovakia.

This may suggest that the injury, isn’t as bad as first feared. At the same time though, it is likely to infuriate manager Neil Lennon, who will feel that Bitton needs to rest, with big games coming up against Rangers and Aberdeen.

Bitton was starting to come on to some good form for the side, so I’m sure the Northern Irishman will be keen for him to be fit and ready for the fixture on the 17th of October.
