Celtic winger Mikey Johnston could be in line for a timely return from injury ahead of this weekend’s Premier Sports Cup final against Hibernian.

The 22-year old hobbled off in the 1-0 victory over Motherwell at Celtic Park last week, after coming soon to replace James Forrest as a first-half change, due to yet another injury – exactly what Ange Postecoglou was needing at this point in time.

The latest injury knocks left the Hoops frontline to the barebones when it came to options in attacking areas of the field, with two full-backs starting on the wing in Adam Montgomery and Josip Juranovic, plus Liel Abada taking up the striker role.

However, Johnston looks like he could be set to come back just in time for Sunday’s cup final clash after being spotted in first-team training yesterday afternoon.

Johnston’s performances have been a little up and down so far this campaign, as is the usual for a lot of wingers.

However, Sunday could offer him the perfect opportunity to kick start his Hoops career under Ange Postecoglou with a good performance at Hampden Park, which could see the 56-year old lift the first trophy of his reign in Glasgow.

It will be interesting to see if Mikey makes the fixture in time. If so, it will come as a boost to Postecoglou, with more attacking options at his disposal.
