Celtic have suffered an injury blow without a ball being kicked during international duty.

It’s emerged this Wednesday afternoon that Mikey Johnston has had to withdraw from the Scotland Under 21 side due to injury.

The winger had to come off against The Rangers on Sunday with what looked like a bad case of cramp but after reporting for international duty the coaching staff have decided to let Mikey head back to Celtic for treatment.

Speaking about the injury, under 21 boss Scott Gemmill remained tight lipped on what was wrong with the midfielder.

“Mikey has had to return to his club so he’s out of both games. It’s down to the club to reveal any details of his injury.” Gemmill told SunSport.

“It’s about chances and hopefully you’ll see another exciting young player.

“Of course we would like Mikey available but it’s an opportunity for someone else.

“Over the period we hope to give as many opportunities to as many players as possible.”

Celtic will now assess Mikey and see what the damage is. Neil Lennon has showed faith in the wee man since coming to Celtic and has been a large part of the first team squad in recent times. Hopefully Mikey will be able to shake whatever is wrong before Celtic take to the field again a week on Saturday.

Celtic’s injury list was easing with news Tom Rogic was on his way back. To stick Mikey on the list wouldn’t be ideal.

We should hear from the club in due course.
