Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has provided fans with an injury update as the list of players piles up – confirming that despite positive signs of a quick return to action, Kyogo Furuhashi will remain out until after the international break.

As quoted by Sun Sport, Postecoglou admitted he hadn’t seen much like this in his time as a manager regarding the number of players currently injured.

The former Socceroos manager confirmed that none of his crocked stars would be ready in time for this Sunday’s fixture against Dundee, whilst also remaining optimistic captain Callum McGregor will be ready for the tricky test of Bayern Leverkusen.

He said: “With Cal, next Thursday is being optimistic.

“With Kyogo, I doubt we will see him this side of the international window, but he is pushing hard.

“Unfortunately, Mikey Johnston picked up a niggle on Wednesday, so he will be out, and I’m not sure when he will be back.

“To cut a long story short, we won’t get anybody back for Sunday.

“I haven’t been through too many periods in my career like this where it’s so challenging with what’s happening off the field in terms of injuries and disruptions.

“But it is what it is. And what our supporters want to know is that we will come here on Sunday and do everything to get a result and just get on with it.

“I don’t think it’s an excuse, but there are valid reasons why we are a little bit inconsistent in terms of the way we are playing at the moment.

“Because we have lost our captain, lost our top goalscorer, other guys who can play in the front area haven’t been available.

“Those kind of things you can use as reasons for not progressing, but we are not doing that.

“If we haven’t performed, we take it on the chin like we did on Sunday and come back in midweek and get the job done.

“If we get through this period, it just means we will be a real, strong unit.”

Ange has been forced to face a massive slice of bad luck regarding the injury problems his squad has had in the last couple of months.

This period in the season is always challenging, with the fixture list piling up ahead of the winter months.

It is going to be tough, but as Ange mentions, if we can get through this without those players, we will undoubtedly be in better shape when they return, ready for action.

  1. It is clear that Mickey Johnstone will have a very limited career in football as he will spend more than half of every season injured. Christopher Jullien is a liability and has been out for far too long. Did he have long-term injuries before joining Celtic? I think the club needs to be thinking about getting something for him. We cannot afford to have these passengers. Forrest is at it again. Far too many injuries over years. What it suggests is these guys are never really fully fit. AS for the Greek bloke, good God. He signed a month ago at a time we really need him as Ajeti is rubbish. Mark Viduka No 2.

    • John i agree with you regarding Johnstone he is the most injury prone player Celtic have had in the 5 decades i have supported the Hoops. But your other points don’t add up bud,1. Julien was extremely unlucky picking up the bad injury to his knee when he collided with te post clearing a certain goal for Dundee Utd last season, but i don’t remember him having any other injuries in his time with Celtic?certainy no long term ones anyway.2.Forrest has had injuries but has especially over the past 6/7 seasons contributed o the causewighing in with some important strikes.3.Although Ajeti is not my cup of tea he has filled in and performed well enough under a difficult situation.4.Saying Ajeti is rubbish is fair enough but to label him Mark Viduka No2? if only he was!! Viduka was a magnificent striker.
