There’s a hope Celtic are moving things forward with who will be the next Celtic manager.

I say hope because we have been given very little to chew on from the club itself.

The timeframe from now until season ticket holders are hit with their renewal forms mean something tangible has to be forthcoming in the next couple of weeks.

With that being said, SunSport chief sports writer Derek McGregor spoke about the ongoing manager search on The Huddle podcast today with Mark Wilson.

The journalist spoke about the procedure Dermot Desmond likes to go through before revealing he believes it’s pretty much a two-way fight between Roy Keane and Eddie Howe to be the next Celtic boss.

“I’m very much of the opinion, in terms of Roy Keane and Eddie Howe there’s too much smoke without some kind of fire

“There’s no doubt in my mind that both of them will have been sounded out

“You’re probably at the stage now where the board are looking to progress talks.

“If you remember at the time prior to Brendan Rodgers being appointed, Dermot Desmond ended up interviewing three candidates at his home in London. There was Neil Lennon, Davie Moyes and Brendan Rodgers.

“Given the COVID restrictions, I don’t know if Dermot will be able to do the interviews from his house

“Dermot’s on record before as someone who really likes to look a prospective manager in the eye. He famously did it with Gus Hiddink and that ultimately ended up on him changing his mind on Hiddink and going for Martin O’Neill

“I think they will interview a couple of candidates and certainly, everything points to, at the moment, it’s looking to be a straight fight between Roy Keane and Eddie Howe”

McGregor then threw his own personal choice for the next Celtic boss:

“I think there’s also a potential for a third candidate to come in, I personally think Chris Wilder is somebody worth interviewing, he’s a very good manager. While he doesn’t quite have the excitement attached to him like a Keane or a Howe, but Chirs Wilder is a solid proven manager.”

Celtic still have the rest of this season to see out but there’s nothing stopping them from naming the next manager ahead of time.

  1. Bite the pillow Dermo ya cun7 yer loaded, and get Brendan Rogers back. If he can be prized away from the English premiership. He doesn’t miss the collection plate or biscuit tin at all. Or someone who is similar.

  2. Won when It counted, asked the suit’s for a bit of cash (how stupid of him, to try to progress in Europe) Never got it as outside the treble winning (almost twice) Got fed up and with the help of leicester fc paying Celtic money to get his services (not doing so bad now) left the building.
Although not in a European cup either. Don’t think he would come back to a city, where his house was robbed. And fed up with the fish pond up here.
Could have (sic) took the Hoops further given a fair allocation of funds to actualy build a team.Unlike the team he had being systematicly sold from under him by the suit’s.
Sound familar?? This is what awaits whoever crosses the threshold at Parkhead to manage a team. Up until now, its become a poisoned chalice. Unless your removed from the job whilst in situ. Or leave like Billy McNeil (Twice) Neil Lennon (Twice) and Brendan Rogers (once) Hopefully the next man manager gets a fair dose of funds every year, than only once.
