Dedryk Boyata’s time at Celtic came to an end in less than ideal circumstances.
The player and his agent irked Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers when the club knocked back interest in the Belgian in his final season at the club.
It came to a head when the former Manchester City man declared he was unfit for a European qualifier while Brendan revealed he was fit.
It would lead to the Green Brigade unveiling a banner claiming Boyata wasn’t ‘fit’ to wear the jersey – he’d score the winner that night at Celtic Park.
Boyata would play on at Celtic for most of the season before an injury in the Glasgow Derby would prematurely end his playing time.
The defender moved to Hertha Berlin on a free and quickly became a favourite. He was then made captain of the German club and helped keep them in the Bundesliga at the end of last season.
However, there now appears to be a falling out between the defender and his current employers. Dedryk has been removed as captain and has been put on the transfer list.
Hertha head-coach Sandro Schwarz addressed the situation: “We don’t have the feeling that he can help bring us forward at the moment,” Bobic said, as reported by bulinews.com. “We either sell or he trains so outstandingly that we can’t place anyone ahead of him.”
The former Celtic invincible will now look to move on before the end of the window.
