ISMAILA SORO

Midfeild
Date of Birth: 7 May 1998
Debut: v Ross County 12 Sept 2020
Nationality: Ivory Coast
Signed: 27 January 2020

Ismaila Soro signed for Celtic during the January transfer window of 2019, and spoke clearly about his aims at a club as big in stature as the Hoops.

The Ivory Coast-born player started his senior career with Saxan in Moldova, before joining Gomel in Belarus, and after spending the bulk of two years in which he played over 40 games in total for his first two sides, the midfielder was on the move again .

This time, the Ivorian was on his way to Israel where he would make 69 appearances with Bnei Yehuda in just over two seasons for the Premier League club.

“I’m prepared to be patient as I work towards opportunities at this great club.”

Prior to joining up at Paradise, Soro also won his first piece of silverware with the Tel Aviv outfit, when they lifted the Israeli Cup during the 2018/19 campaign, and the following season he did the same in the Scottish Cup with Celtic – and both games were won on penalties after extra-time.

Moving from Israel sees Soro follow the likes of Nir Bitton, Hatem Elhamed, Beram Kayal and Efe Ambrose, who all once plied their trade in the country’s top flight.

Soro made his debut against Ross County in a 5-0 victory over the side from Dingwall in September 2020, coming on a late substitute for Callum McGregor and having joined on a long-term contract, the creative midfielder will be looking to become a mainstay of the engine for Glasgow’s green and white.

COUNTRY BHOY
Born in Yakasse-Me-Agou, the midfielder made his debut for the Ivory Coast on June 12, 2021 when he came on in the 89th minute of a 0-0 away draw in a friendly with Ghana.
