Celtic Women secured back to back Scottish Cup triumphs on Sunday as goals from Natasha Flint and Claire O’Riordan secured a 2-1 victory for the Ghirls over Rangers.

It was dominative performance from Fran Alonso’s side who done their manager proud.

After the match, Alonso was delighted with his players’ efforts and resultant victory, which he admitted was hard to work for after last week’s SWPL disappointment. The Spaniard said (Glasgow Times):

“It means the world to me.

“It was very hard to pick the girls up after we came within two minutes of winning the league last Sunday.

“We transferred the anger and disappointment into aggression and passion. Today against a superb team we dominated the game. We could have scored more and I’m extremely proud.”

It was a hugely productive Sunday afternoon for the Ghirls and it is great to hear that Alonso was a happy man.

His energy and passion for Celtic is next to none and he also said how the winning of the cup was a massive moment for him personally:

“It’s a very, very special day for me and my family. The fans were singing for 90 minutes once again. We are doing something very special at the football club and today is just one step more.”

Each year, the Celtic Women’s side is growing in popularity and influence.

This season has been no different and led by Fran Alonso, 2023/24 could be yet another vastly successful one for the Ghirls.
