ANGE POSTECOGLOU backs the idea of the split, despite many in Scottish football disliking the whole concept of it.

There are just four games left until the split, with the midtable teams still incredibly closely linked, with just 11 points separating ninth and fourth, with movement in and out of the top six bound to happen over the next few weeks.

The scenario it creates, which is highly controversial, is that a team can finish 7th with more points than the team that finishes sixth, but Ange Postecoglou has given an alternative argument, insisting it gives teams who may not have a lot to fight for at this stage of the season some added insensitive and motivations.

Speaking to Celtic TV, the manager admitted that last season was his first experience of it, but expressed that it works well in Scotland, with so few teams in the top flight.

The Celtic gaffer said:

“It was my first experience of it last year.

“if you look at the table at the moment, it does give some insensitive to the teams. Outside of the fighting for the European places, there’s the challenge to get into the top six, which I think gives those teams in the middle section the incentive to work harder throughout this period.

“The teams down the bottom will treat each of these games with as much intensity and desperation as they can. Knowing that they can have their destiny in their own hands, because they will be playing teams around them.

“I think it works well, with such a small number of teams in the top flight, that break up works pretty well. From our perspective, last year, it seemed to work well, and i think it will again this year.”
