Former Celtic defender Alan Stubbs admitted he would love to see both Celtic and Rangers join the Premier League down south and see them compete against sides such as Liverpool and Manchester United. However, he believes that the actions of these clubs with the European Super League have affected those chances.

As quoted by the Daily Record, Stubbs who has also played in the EPL, spending time at his hometown club Everton, said he would love to see the Hoops join these sides but reality doesn’t think it will be possible until some point later down the line.

“To see Celtic and Rangers in amongst the Premier League would be fantastic. But the reality of it actually happening is another thing.

“As we’ve seen from the last few days and the outcry that followed the big six clubs in England acting so selfishly means there will be a lot of debates and arguments still to come.

“I mean, how do we actually get Celtic and Rangers into the Premier League?

“Are all these clubs in the Championship, League One and League Two just going to accept it? It’s a minefield.

“I’d love to see it because I think it would be amazing. It would certainly add to the Premier League.

“There would be a lot of clubs worried if Celtic and Rangers were to join. Give them a couple of years to find stability and revenue, attract the players to compete at that level and then they’d be a huge force at the top end of the league.

“But I can’t see it happening in the short term. We’ve been talking about this for years now and nothing has happened.

“It’s been brought back up because of the selfish acts of six clubs down south. I think the last few days has made it harder (for it to happen). I really do.

“The way these six clubs have gone behind their partners and allies, and so selfishly gone about it, it’s made it so much more difficult for anything like this to make any progress.”

With Stubbs coming from an English Premier League background, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise to see him admit he would love to see this sort of idea come to fruition.

However, I do not think the vast majority of Celtic fans would hold this opinion too.

Speaking personally, I would much rather stay in Scotland than join up with the EPL. We have seen recently what the money down south does to clubs and has completely watered down the experience of being football fans at certain clubs.

Those involved at the top of these leagues, care about nothing more than the money involved in owning a football club. Some may say this is exactly what it is like at every football club nowadays but not to the extent of the likes of these top six teams.
