CELTIC are in the market for a few players in January but one thing which hasn’t been brought up is securing their goalkeeper on a permanent deal going forward.

That’s exactly what Sky Sports pundit and former Celtic midfielder Kris Commons was getting at in his Mail Column this week. The pundit believes Celtic could send shockwaves through Scottish football if they managed to bring Fraser Forster back home permanently.

Right now, Fraser is enjoying his football after two years sitting on the sidelines for Southampton. The club and the coaches discarded the Englishman and it was Neil Lennon who went back in and saved the big man’s career. Fraser has already repaid the faith shown by Neil Lennon with a string of World class performances which have helped Celtic excel domestically and on a European level.

It’s all about the money and Fraser is on a massive deal at Southampton, it would take a lot to bring the goalkeeper back into the fray full time but as we’ve seen this term – you can’t put a price on the sort of impact he has had – although I’m sure Southampton will have a bash at it.

Kris Commons wrote in The Scottish Daily Mail (16/12 print edition) : “It would send shockwaves through Scottish football if Celtic could clinch a deal to sign Fraser Forster permanently. It would be a blockbuster signing and a huge statement of intent from the club. It should be a matter of urgency to get it done as soon as possible.

“The stumbling block isn’t necessarily the transfer fee. Celtic have shown with the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Christopher Jullien that they don’t mind spending a few quid on the right player.”

Craig Gordon’s contract is running into its last six months and Scott Bain has just signed a new deal with the club. Could he and Fraser be the first team Celts next season?
