It’s official! Celtic will be paying respects and honouring their greatest ever captain this weekend against Kilmarnock AND in the Cup Final next month the official website has announced.

The club has announced the players will  wear special black armbands with the number five on them during the game on Saturday. The first team will also lay a wreath outside Celtic Park at 11am on the day of the game just an hour and a half before kick off.

A minute applause will also take place before kick off with Billy’s family adamant there will be no minute silence because football stadiums were not built to be silent.

We will again get to honour the Celtic Legend during the Scottish Cup Final which so happens to fall on the 25th May – 52 years to the day Billy lifted the big one!

On that day the players will wear the number 5 on their shorts. The Cup will be dubbed by Celtic fans as the Billy McNeill Cup final. It would be fantastic for the club to bring home a treble treble on that day.
