Alistair Johnston has revealed his reaction to Arne Engels being struck by a coin this afternoon at Ibrox.
With the Canadian defender empathetic towards his teammate in such a serious incident from a Rangers supporter.
Johnston said: (The Celtic Way), “It’s something that unfortunately happens. And again, in an ideal world, it’s not happening.
“That’s the unfortunate case where it hits someone. And look, if that hits them in the eye, it’s probably a pretty serious matter. So I just caution everyone just to be smart.
“Again, it’s humans out there. It’s someone’s son. So let’s just refrain from chucking things at guys’ heads, ideally.”
Put perfectly by Johnston, Engels was just doing his job as a footballer and should not be subjected to an attack by a flying object while taking a corner.
It’s not the first time that this has happened at Ibrox.
Hopefully, it will be the last.
With Rangers still unable to guarantee Celtic supporters’ safety at the Glasgow Derby in Govan, it is a telling sign of how Celtic players, staff, and supporters are made to feel across the city.
There should be a petition to demand the next Glasgow derby at Ibrox be behind closed doors. With this incident, the celtic fans in that section of the ground being bottled, the glasd in Joe Hart’s goalmouth, and the Celtic medical team being bottled. The only way safety can be guaranteed is to have zero fans inside that stadium.
