Former Celtic midfielder Aiden McGeady has been told he is surplus to requirements at his current club Everton with new manager Ronald Koeman stripping his squad number away from him.

The Irishman who left Celtic for Russia six years ago has been at Everton for the past two seasons, being shipped out on-loan last term to Sheffield Wednesday.

The former Celtic youth academy player is now 30 and has a few good years left still in him. That’s why I think it’s time Celtic look into bringing him home.

In Aiden you have a player who knows the club, has handled the pressure before at a younger age and we can now reap the benefits of a much more well rounded mature player.

Everton aren’t likely going to ask for the world in terms of a fee and I don’t see his wages being a stumbling block. He has many admirers in the stands at Celtic Park but also many detractors who criticised him on a weekly basis the first time round.

With so much at stake this season it would be a very good and financially friendly choice to bring our bhoy home. With 85 full caps for his country and experience in two different, highly competitive leagues, it makes sense.

Would you like to see Aiden McGeady back in the Hoops?

  1. I’d rather they signed Efe’s brother (if he has one) than bring one trick Mcgeady back, he was in a hurry to leave Celtic then I say good riddence.

  2. Dear God no…..we’re trying to get rid of deadwood, not bring in more……His attitude stinks, his face is always tripping him, not a team player…hasn’t produced it in years…has a few tricks but no final ball….hasn’t the work ethic for a Brendan Rogers team……huge no for me

  3. Sounds like an April fool to me. BR was brought to the club to improve our standing particularly in European terms, this guy is the poor man’s Patrick Roberts. He has never and I mean never played three consecutive good games throughout his career to date

  4. One of the most frustrating celtic players I’ve watched. Right up there with samara. Not taking away from the fact he had some great moments in a hoops jersey but nowhere near enough. Not a move that would have me looking good forward to going to CP more

  5. Mcgeady only player who kids didn’t see when I took them to Parkhead
As he ran up the side of the car park to avoid supporters. That for me was ore than enough to not take him back.

  6. Would love to see Aiden back at Celtic, he lost a mentor in Tommy Burns and i can’t understand other Celtic fans criticising Aiden for wanting to try something different with his career.

I would welcome the lad back with open arms!

  7. Is rather have mc Geady in my team than Forrest who seems to want to leave and has hardly kicked a ball for us over the last 12 months

  8. Would bring Aiden back. He could rediscover his best form with The Hoops.
His transfer fee when he left funded a lot of good buys for us at the time.
As the song from Les Miserables states, “Bring Him Home!”

  9. Sorry lads, watching him at Everton has been painful. Martinez said he would bring the best out of him… but gave up and instead sent him to Sheffield. At Wednesday he had a few good games, but struggled for game time even in the second league of England. Good luck to whichever team has Aiden next, they will need it!

  10. Greedy mcgeady – cannot produce the end product often enough. Has made too much money and lost his motivation. It is a no from me
