Former Celtic defender and captain Jackie McNamara was rushed to hospital on Saturday after he reportedly collapsed outside his house with a bleed on the brain.

Jackie, 46, was rushed to a hospital in York before being transferred to a facility in Hull to undergo an operation.

John Hartson confirmed the severity of Jackie’s condition on social media.

Jackie’s friend told RecordSport: “Jackie was out walking the dog on Saturday near his home in York.

“He became unwell quite quickly and he headed back to his house.

“But he must have been really poorly because he did not make it back into the house.

“He collapsed on the doorstep and his family found him.

“So this is a really worrying time for his family and his friends.

“We’re just hoping that he can come through this.”

Jackie has remained on the football scene since retiring and has managed Dundee utd as well as York City. The former defender is currently a consultant at Dunfermline and does the Celtic Q&A circuit. He also helps run a bar with his former Celtic teammate Simon Donnelly in Spain.

McNamara was part of the Celtic side who won the famous treble under Martin O’Neill during the Irishman’s firs season in charge. He’s always kept close with the club and support over the years.

We are sending our best wishes to Jackie and hope he makes a full recovery. If we get any more information we’ll pass it onto supporters via our social media channels.
