Ange Postecoglou hasn’t been able to call on both Christopher Jullien or James Forrest as he tries to navigate through very choppy waters.

We all know Christopher Jullien’s deal; the defender has been out since the final game of 2020 when he collided with the post and damaged his knee. The Frenchman has had to have an operation and has spent months rehabbing.

Ange Postecoglou seems confident the defender will be back in training in mid October which is great news for Celtic.

On the other hand – James Forrest continues to puzzle this physio team and the manager.

James was initially due back before the Glasgow Derby at the end of August. We’re now in October and the winger has still not made a return.

Speaking to RecordSport, the Hoops boss was confident of Chris making a return but admitted James Forrest is a bit of a mystery: “They both have that experience and nous. That’s why it will be great to get them back because they can help us through this challenging period.

“It’s hard to say exactly when they’ll be back. Chris has been working in rehab and we’re hopeful that he’ll start team training after the international break.

“James is a bit different. He had a minor setback and we just haven’t been able to get him up and running. It’s difficult to have a timeline on it. My initial thoughts were he wouldn’t be too long but it’s become a bit stretched out now. We have to be guided by him and how the injury heals. He’s a player I felt would make a significant contribution. Obviously, that hasn’t happened.”

Abada has had to play a lot of football in Forrest’s absence. The winger has done well but he’s a young lad in a new country and a new squad, having James Forrest back to share the load would be beneficial.

Let’s hope the club can get to the bottom of what’s keeping the Scottish international out of the team.

  1. It sounds to me as if forrest is the one deciding that he cant play. Maybe when his contract comes up for renewal we will see a lot more of him.
