While his Celtic teammates were scattered across the globe on international duty, James Forrest took a different route,  popping up at Oriel Park to watch Dundalk’s 3-0 victory over Finn Harps on Friday night.

The winger, not part of the Scotland squad, has been training at Lennoxtown earlier in the week but used his downtime to enjoy some football from the stands in the League of Ireland.

He picked a good one.  Dundalk sealed promotion to the Premier Division, winning the First Division title in style. Second-half goals from Gbemi Arubi, Daryl Horgan, and Vinnie Leonard saw them comfortably past Finn Harps.

The result caps a stunning revival for Dundalk. The club was on the brink of collapse in 2024 but has bounced back under new ownership and will now return to the top flight in time for their centenary in the League of Ireland in 2026.

As the international break draws to a close, Forrest will soon be rejoined at Lennoxtown by the returning senior stars as Celtic gear up for a crucial run of games, beginning with a trip to Dundee next weekend.

Then it’s Europa League action for the Bhoys, who are searching for their first three points in the competition when matchday 3 rolls around.
