James McClean has publicly shared his long-standing desire to join Celtic, a move he claims was never realised due to the club’s board’s apprehensions.
The 35-year-old Wrexham player responded to a farewell message from Adam Idah on Instagram, revealing that he has been attempting to secure a transfer to his boyhood club for a decade.
Idah, who scored the winning goal in the Scottish Cup final for Celtic against Rangers, is currently on loan from Norwich City, and discussions about making his move permanent are underway. As fans encouraged Idah to stay with Celtic on his Instagram, McClean joined the conversation, expressing his own unfulfilled dream of playing for the Hoops.
When a fan suggested McClean should also sign for Celtic, he replied, “Tried for 10 years, board s*** scared of the ‘drama’.”
Throughout his career, McClean has made no secret of his affection for Celtic, and despite his successful stints in professional football, the move to Celtic Park remains an unachieved goal as he approaches the later stages of his playing career.
