BRENDAN RODGERS has again spoken about his Celtic exit and why it was the best thing for him at the time.

Jamie Carragher asked the former Hoops boss if his decision to leave Celtic when he did has now been vindicated on Monday’s Spy Sports broadcast.

The Irishman was clear about his departure and what it’s led to:

“Yeah, absolutely.” Rodgers replied to Carragher. [Cited by SunSport]

“I’ve always said it was such a tough decision for me to leave Celtic because I was a Celtic supporter growing up.

“But what I couldn’t do was let my heart rule my head.

“I felt that I needed the next challenge. Celtic is a huge institution in the game and I loved every second there.

“But I felt coming back to a club like Leicester, my challenge here was could we disrupt the top six?

“We knew financially that we couldn’t compete but I knew economically the club was very well run. And could we set a team out to perform well on the field that would be competitive?

“Gradually we’ve created an identity and a mentality and are looking to challenge. That’s something that I’ve enjoyed every minute of since I’ve been here.”

Leicester are currently third in the table and are looking to see out the rest of the season for a coveted Champions League spot.

There’s no doubt Rodgers is a great coach and he’s got that team playing to a certain standard. Leicester have gatecrashed the top six, even though they won the league in the last five years, that was seen as an incredible anomaly.

Celtic’s fortunes have deteriorated since Rodgers left the building.

There’s no doubt his managerial credentials are up there. However, there are Celtic fans who will never forgive the manager for the timing and manner of his Parkhead exit.

Time has brought some people around at least.

  1. Not surprised by his exit, the answer was there in his actions and demeanour at every interview. Don’t blame BR for leaving. Blame the suits for making him leave. And of course the made a profit. What’s new huh the Cun7s. The rest they say could be history for the Ten.
