THE JAPANESE NATIONAL TEAM has dropped both Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate from the squad previously selected to face Uzbekistan in the Kirin Challenge Cup.

Kyogo Furuhashi had not been called up to the squad as the Japanese Football Association would only call players up who were competing in the leagues within the country.

It’s still unclear what will happen for the World Cup Qualifying games with the JFA hoping an exemption will be made which will allow foreign players to fly into the country.

The reason that Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate will not fly to take part is because of their recent overseas transfers to Celtic, states the JFA.

This means Celtic could be without key players for the Glasgow Derby in Early February. Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that if players are to be called up they will be released by the club.

Tom Rogic could join the Japanese players in missing the Derby with it looking almost certain he will be called up to his national side.
