Former Celtic defender Jeremie Frimpong put in a top drawer performance in the Champions League last night.

His Bayer Leverkusen side defeated Atletico Madrid 2-0 with Frimpong providing both assists in a huge win for the club.

Frimpong has terrific pace which benefited his side last night as he tore Atletico apart going down the right hand side.

The German side haven’t had the best of starts to their Bundesliga campaign as they find themselves 17th in Bundesliga but this result could kickstart their season. So far they have only managed one victory in the league with Frimpong scoring two goals in a 3-0 victory over FSV Mainz 05.

Frimpong was linked with a move to Barcelona in the summer months and performances like this will do the former Celtic man no harm.

Leverkusen are a team Celtic know well from last season’s Europa League and will be hoping for a similar result against Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Hoops are believed to have a bumper sell-on fee attached to Frimpong meaning that any move away from the German side would benefit Celtic.

At 21-years old there is still a lot of time for Frimpong to develop as a player. He made the switch to Leverkusen in January 2021 and has continued to grow.
